We welcome Steve Kelley to Piston with his debut slice Look Around EP. From humble beginnings as a resident DJ at local Birmingham clubs Steve now finds himself in the position of heading up one of the most forward thinking labels in the world of dance music, Celestial Recordings. His big break came as the resident DJ at Godskitchen in 1996 which ultimately led to him touring the world with the formidable brand. Steve’s skills behind the decks were soon recognised by his peers when voted in a M8 Magazine DJ Competition as Clublands best resident where he came runner-up. After starting up his own events with great success the next step was to enter the world of producing his music. He soon found his works on labels such as D’Amour Recordings, Soul Shift and Suma Records.
Not wanting to rest on his laurels, Steve’s next ambition was to create a label that will equal the likes of Defected, Toolroom and Subliminal. With a chance meet with Miss Moneypenny’s and Chuff Chuff creator Jim Shaft Ryan the plan was put in place between them to develop the label, Celestial Recordings in June 2010. Great to have him on board at Piston Recordings.

Look Around intros with an absolute gem of a kick drum that packs a solid punch. Cool, shuffling percussions come through delivering an infectious rhythm. A short break reveals a rich pad before the beats come back alongside a huge chord sequence. The chords bring warmth to the sound as a sub level bass adds depth. Such a beautiful track with a tight arrangement and a solid house groove that will not disappoint.

A Little Bit sets off with a nice punchy kick and rhythmic hi hat combi. The beats are infectious, forcing you to the floor where the lush groove from the bassline will rock your body. Contrasting sounds from the deep bass and sweet pads create a surreal episode that captivates the mind. Whispered vocals are the icing on the cake for this one, a fantastic house record for the late night sessions, not to be missed.
