Portuguese DJ and producer Ricardo Cardoso aka Ritz returns to Piston with the four track Carousel EP. Aside from contributing several tracks on our compilations, Ritz has also delivered a series of quality cuts for us over the years, including his last effort, on the remix for Lebedev’s Paris Night followed the superb Bronx 476.9625 EP with both being very well received as always. Ricardo got the electronic music bug in the mid 90’s after visiting clubs such as Climacz and Alcantara-Mar. He quickly got into Deep House, Deep Dub, House and Leftfield House. It was under the pseudonym M0u53 that in 2015 he released several singles and EPs ON Audaz Recordings and Hush Recordz. In 2016 he changed his stage name to Ritz, and since then he has worked with many national and international publishers such as ARTS, Blossom Kollektiv, Hypnotic Room, Open Bar Music, Plastic City and many more. Ricardo also runs his own imprint called Left Hook Recordings where he showcases his own unique sound. He rarely does DJ sets and when he does, it is on special occasions using only his own music.
Carousel is up first and offers a freshly squeezed deep house cut that delights with its dancefloor appeal and warm lush tones. Tight drums drive the groove as mesmerizing chords modulate in a very cool unique motion. A deep, probing bassline shifts the hips while cool vocal snippets add weight to the rhythm. Top-notch stuff that will not disappoint.
MD Tonico dishes out a groovy slice with upbeat funky elements. Punchy kick drums and shuffling hi hat patterns combine as a plucky bassline joins in. The bassline moves up and down the scale with a funky twist as cool keys bring the deep house flavour alive. A playful track with a lot to offer in any building set.
When It Kicks In is a superb deep house effort with a nice flow that would suit any floor. The bassline delivers a strong, probing sound that works in tandem with the 4×4 beat and some very cool synth stabs. This one is definitely destined to fill the floors with its upbeat vibe and colourful palette. Melodic pads rise slowly through the groove and subtle vocals add a cool touch making this an absolute must have, no doubt.
Disorder rounds up this impeccable EP with a dynamic groove that will brighten up any set. Chunky beats lead the way as a series of intricate percussion patterns generate a flowing rhythm. Plucky basses give off a garage flavour as a cacophony of notes create a somewhat chaotic sequence. This brings in that unique sound that will captivate for sure. Great stuff indeed.
