Italian DJ and producer trio, Cristian Carpentieri, Guido Nemola and Chico Perulli aka Joyfull Family return to Piston with the excellent Keep On Dubbin’ EP which comes hot on the heels of their last effort – Lost Pleasures EP – back in June 2017. Ten years ago these guys got together to create underground tracks and house remixes. Their 2005 hit Da Breaker got plenty of airtime, notably through gaining top spot on various European charts including Pete Tong’s Essential Selection. They went on to remix for international stars like Corrina Joseph and Shawn Christopher as well as a remix for Cajmere and Dajae’s Brighter Days. In the last couple of years they’ve racked up a very impressive release count on several labels with their brand of deep and tech house hitting the spot for many jocks and clubbers alike. Nice to see them back for more at Piston.

Keep On Dubbin’ offers up a real treat full of wonderful house flavours to whet the appetite and get the floors busy. The track intros with a nice punchy kick drum and slicing hi hat combi which is soon followed by a powerful sub bass. Cool vocals laden with FX peek through adding a club vibe as filtered pads fade in. The synths deliver a cool funky house groove that blends effortlessly with that solid probing bassline. A definite must have for sure.

Take Me Up ironically takes us down, deep down into the depths of house music and filled with warming basses and seriously smooth chords. A chunky kick drum leads the way and is accompanied by rhythmic hi hats and intricate percussion patterns. Short vocal shots create a cool vibe as rich chords come through alongside mesmerizing keys and sweeping pads. A wonderful deep house groove, perfect for those early morning sessions.

Spanish DJ and producer Aitor Astiz debuts on Piston with the fantastic two track release entitled Do It Again. He got into music at the age of 6 and later he discovered electronica. Inspired by house music his productions delve into the old skool sound. With several quality releases under his belt already, you can be sure you’ll be seeing a lot more from this guy in the future.

Do It Again opens with a distinctive breaks pattern followed by a thumping kick drum and shuffling hi hat combi to get the floors moving. A short pause unleashes a retro style siren before a superb, deep probing bassline takes over. The bassline is complimented by cool stabs that bring the funk to the sound. On the main break a wailing diva belts out a solid club vocal which becomes highly infectious. Top notch stuff and a definite must have.

Believe In delivers a solid house cut complete with a tight drum section that is driven by a powerful kick drum and snappy snares. A deep rolling bassline lurks on the beat leaving a subby trail in its wake. Quirky synths add a surreal layer to the track while diva vocals ring out alongside cool one shots that beef up the groove nicely. A fine slice that will keep the floors rocking.

Spanish DJ and producer Juanma Llopis returns to Piston after a bit of a hiatus with the excellent Sowilo. We last caught a glimpse of this guy’s work here back in 2015 with Going Insane which was very well received indeed. Juanma is a lover of music and is able to turn his hand to various genres, but Deep House is where he mostly resides. His DJing has taken him all over Spain and he has appeared on labels like, Joyfull Family Records, Sound Mass Records and Vandalism Musique.

Sowilo takes us into the depths of house music thanks to the deep and warm sounds oozing out of the groove. A tight drum section led by a chunky kick drum keeps the feet moving while deep basses provide that warming feeling. Quirky synth shots blend effortlessly with intricate percussion patterns that create a beautifully textured sound. The contrast between the deeper sounds and brighter melodies is what gives this track its edge, definitely one for the floors here.

Faker intros with a solid punchy kick drum which is soon joined by crispy hats and rhythmic percussions. Deep chords fade in giving the track a rich vibe while a deep probing bassline keeps the groove locked in. Various sounds layer up creating a complex tapestry of rhythms that are perfectly aligned for maximum impact. A solid cut that will not disappoint.
